Kiwanis Seeks Blood Donors for May 7 Event
The Kiwanis Club of San Marcos will host a blood drive for the San Diego Blood Bank on Sunday, May 7, from 9am to 2pm at the San Marcos Civic Center parking lot, 3 Civic Center Drive. Potential donors are asked to call Kiwanis at 471.3201 as soon as possible to pre-register. Walk-ins will be welcome at the May 7th event, however, appointments will be taken first and are scheduled at 15-minute intervals between 9am and 2pm.
The blood drive is being held in conjunction with the Kiwanis Child Safety and Family Resource Day and the City of San Marcos Munchkin Street Fair, combined events that run from 10am to 4pm that day at the San Marcos Civic Center. Annual Charity Golf Tournament to Benefit Share A Dream Scholarship Program
The City of Escondido is planning their 12th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on May 9 at The Vineyard, 925 San Pasqual Road, Escondido. It starts at 11am with check-in, putting contest and a free driving range available. This tournament is a four-player scramble with a Shot Gun Start at 1pm, with Dinner and Awards at 6pm. Included are Green Fees and Cart, Dinner, Individual and Team Awards, and a Tee Package, Silent Auction, and Raffle Prizes.

Spring Fling Fashion Show Planned
The Ladies of Resurrection of the Resurrection Catholic Church are holding a Spring Fling fashion show beginning at 11am, Saturday, May 13, at the Church Hall, 1445 Conway Drive, Escondido. The event will begin with shopping with vendors, then lunch will be served. Following lunch, Weekenders fashions will be shown.

"Spring of Fashions" Planned by Christian Women's Club

The speaker is from Hesperia, Luanne Hunt who is a published author, motivational speaker and singer. She will share "how hearts are mended by unconditional love." She also will entertain with music. "Politics and Religion" is Topic at LSM Democratic Club Meeting
The Lake San Marcos Democratic Club will meet Saturday, May 13 at 1pm at the Lake Pavilion at 1105 La Bonita Drive, Lake San Marcos.
"Politics and Religion" is the subject of the featured speaker, Patrick Cooney. Mr. Cooney has been an Administrative Law Judge for the past 31 years. He writes that he sees voter education as the only realistic path to political reform because an educated electorate negates the effect of political advertising.

AAUW to Hear Dr. Mihri Ozkan Speak
At the meeting of May 20, the American Association of University Women will have Dr. Mihri Ozkan as their speaker. Dr. Ozkan is an Electrical Engineering Professor at UC Riverside, and is the 2005 winner of the Educational Foundation Recognition Award for Emerging Scholars.

Speaking Up For Positive Environmental Action
On Saturday, May 20, from 10am to 12 Noon, the Woman's Club of Escondido, Escondido Citizens Ecology Committee, and the League of Women Voters have joined forces to present a program about the environment. It is open to the public, at no charge.
Speaking Up For Animals will be Candy Schumann, Volunteer Executive Director for SNAP (Spay Neuter Action Project); Patricia Mulcahy from the House Rabbit Society; Jane Cartmill, animal advocate seeking the humane world; and Shawnee Williams from Project Wildlife. Speaking Up For Humans will be Dr. Milton Saier, researcher in Microbiology and Professor at USCSD; and Jane Cortez, V.P. of Research and Environmental Health for the Lung Association. On display will be "Brag," plants from the Cactus and Succulent Society; "Thumper," rabbits from the House Rabbit Society; and the Neuter Scooter will be available.
