Veteran’s Cemetery at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar
Editor:
In March of 2000, Jerry Hinsch, past District Commander of the VFW, and myself met with former congressman Cunningham to pursue the idea of a national cemetery in the San Diego area for its 300,000 veterans. "Duke" was most supportive and fully endorsed the idea and said something like "I want to be the tip of the spear on this." In 2003 the annex to the Point Loma National Cemetery was approved.
Thanks Duke.
We have 323 acres on the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar called Area Two, located in the vicinity of I-805 and Miramar Road. There was 19.5 million dollars for design and construction in the 2006 budget (yes - 2006), and a half million dollars for environmental studies, some of which has been completed. The opening was first set for 2004. See NCT articles by Edward Sifuentes of July 26, 2003, and Gig Connaughton on February 7, 2003. The date for opening has been pushed back each year. The latest date is now 2009. What and where is the hold-up? This is not a FEMA project, but it looks like one. Before each auto race the command goes out "Gentlemen, start your engines”:….I want to hear some foreman in a steel helmet say "Gentlemen, start your bull-dozers." Readers, maybe we can help.
Call your congressman, your senator, your mother-in-law, but call someone. Post cards and letters are in order as well.

Supports “Farewell, Sweet Old World” Cover Story
Thank you for writing this articulate and important article on a subject that some people seem to be reluctant to discuss. Certainly there are people who will emphatically disagree with your position, but there are also people (like me) who applaud it.
I hope you will encourage your readers to research any legislation coming before our representatives in the house and senate of California to try to put some form of the Oregon legislation into effect in this State. Various approaches have been made -- I'm not current on the status. Support is always needed.
You personally must be active in these efforts since you are so knowledgeable and care so much about our futures.
I had never seen your paper before I picked this issue up in my building office, but I will certainly look for it in the future.

Christmas Poem Concerns
Hi,
I just read the poem entitled "SHOUT MERRY CHRISTMAS". I have no opinion in regards to the content of the poem but I don't think it is appropriate that Ms. Madison take the credit for penning this poem.
She obviously did not write it as it has been on the internet curculation since 2002 but by not stating "Author Unknown" it may appear to many that it was crafted by Ms. Madison. I'm sure it was a sincere overlook on her part that she did not address the appropriate author.
I would now find it appropriate that your paper make this correction in the next issue.
Sincerely,
/s/Mr. S. Simmons

Editor’s Note: Mr. Simmons is correct. The author is unknown. Ms. Madison did not intend to claim credit for the poem, nor did she.
