The Business After 5 Mixer for the Escondido Chamber of Commerce will be held tonight, March 11, at the Harrah's Rincon Resort & Casino, 777 Harrah's Rincon Way, Valley Center. The mixer will be from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, and is being held on the second floor of the Spa Tower in the Bordeaux Room. For information, call the Chamber at 760.745.2125. There's Still Time to Register for "Paws in the Park"
The Escondido Humane Society’s fundraiser,"Paws in the Park," is only days away, on March 28, but there is still plenty of time for people to register and begin their fundraising efforts for the fun, family-friendly dog walk. Every walker will make a difference, and every dollar raised will help brighten the lives of animals at the Escondido Humane Society who are awaiting a home.
Walkers can register online at www.firstgiving.com/ehs, or on the day of the event by downloading a pledge form at www.escondidohumanesociety.org and bringing it to the walk. Registration is free, and all walkers will receive prizes based on dollars raised, starting at $25. There will be entertainment, games for people and pets, a raffle, Paw vendor expo, and contests such as a "K-9's Got Talent" showcase and wet T-shirt contest (don't worry, it's for the dogs).
Special guests include "Buns of Steel" series star, Tamilee Webb, who will lead people and pets through a routine to get everyone pumped up. Richard Lederer will be on hand with his newest books. Heather Myers of San Diego 6 The CW will serve as mistress of ceremonies, and Gary Trice, San Diego's "Classic Rocking DJ," will provide music.

Art League Announces March Demo
The Lake San Marcos Art League's next meeting will be on Monday, March 15, from 1:30-3:30pm, at the Lake Pavilion, 1105 La Bonita Drive, and will feature Helen Shafer Garcia. Helen's paintings search for a rich and emotionally drawn encounter with paint, color, and texture, recounting images from Mexico, New Zealand, and other lands visited. Her illustrations have graced brochure covers for resorts internationally and throughout California. She has received numerous awards in illustration and fine arts. Visitors are welcome; $3.00 fee. Spring Session Begins for Encinitas Guitar Orchestra
The Spring session for the Encinitas Guitar Orchestra theme will be "Americana," and performing a traditional American medley of songs, including "Dixie," "Turkey in the Straw," "Poor Wayfaring Stranger," and others. The second medley was arranged by a British guitarist arranger, and will include "Oh Susanna," "Shenandoah," and others. In addition, popular folk music and some Irish tunes will be explored. The session will be on Mondays, from March 15 thru May 31st. The concert will be on Friday, June 4, at 8pm. Senior Service Council Announces Programs Available

The bereavement support group meets from 1:30-3pm every Thursday. Participants meet in a confidential environment to express feelings and explore healthy coping strategies for dealing with grief.
On Monday, March 15, there will be a free Arthritis & Osteoporosis support group meeting from 10-11:30am, for anyone whose lives are affected by either or both of these diseases; sponsored by Palomar Pomerado Health.
A free Parkinson's Support Group meeting will be held from 10am-12noon, on Tuesday, March 16. Call Lisa Russell at 858.733.2673 for information about this meeting.
Garden Insects is Topic at California Coastal Rose Society Meeting
The California Coastal Rose Society (CCRS) will meet on Tuesday, March 16 at 7pm, at Heritage Hall, 2650 Garfield, Carlsbad (n/w corner of Magee Park). Baldo Villegas will speak on "Garden Insects: Beneficial vs Pest." Preceeding the featured talk, from 6:15-6:45pm, Dr. Joel Ross will continue his rose-aholics lecture series. Women's Auxiliary of Rady Children's Hospital to Meet
The Women's Auxiliary, North County Unit, of Rady Children's Hospital extends an invitation to join their group of women from all over North County and outlying areas. They are looking for new members who are willing to donate time and talents to help raise funds for the hospital that benefits children throughout San Diego County. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 17, at 9:30am at the First Methodist Church, 341 Kalmia St., Escondido. The Unit will be hosting a Spring Garden Sale. Library to Present World Music Series With
The Oceanside Public Library and Friends of the Library are proud to present musician and actor Ronny Cox on Friday, March 19, in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms, 330 No. Coast Highway, starting at 7:30pm. Islam and Muslims Explained at AAUW Meeting
On Saturday, March 20, at 10am, the Escondido-San Marcos Branch of the American Association of University Women will be joined by the Carlsbad/Oceanside/Vista Branch for a meeting at the Escondido Country Club. The speaker will be Dr. Tehseen Lazzouni, Director of the Islamic Speaker's Bureau of San Diego (ISB), an educational resource organization that she founded in 2000 that educates the San Diego community about Islam and Muslims. Mission Branch of Oceanside Library to Close for Two Weeks
The Mission Branch of the Oceanside Public Library system will be closed from Monday, March 15 through Friday, March 26, for installation of new shelves and other improvements to better serve the public. The branch is located at 3861 Mission Avenue, Oceanside. The branch will be open normal hours on Sunday, March 14, and normal service hours will resume on Sunday, March 28. Library materials checked out from the branch will not be due during this period, and materials can still be returned in the drop boxes located in front of either library branch.
The Civic Center Library will be open during these two weeks for its normal service hours, offering all the services obtainable at the Mission Branch. Learn Flower and Plant Designing in Floral Class
Discover the healing power of flowers in a relaxed, fun atmosphere and make beautiful designs to take home each week. This floral class is taught by award winning local designer and florist, Lance Rosasco. Pre-registration is required. DAR and Dr. Randall Leads Help Support Serenity House
The Rincon Del Diablo Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Dr. Randall Leads, DDS, are helping to support Serenity House, a home for homeless women recovering from substance abuse. Dr. Leads donates toothbrushes, paste and floss while chapter members assemble them in ditty bags, along with other personal hygiene items, and deliver them to Serenity House.
This is one of several projects the chapter supports, along with making quilts sent to military hospitals overseas, sending individual packages to military in Iraq and Afthanistan, supporting a classroom in an Appalachian school with math kits, books, and equipment.
The chapter is open to all women who can prove lineage back to a supporter of the American Revolutionary War. Members can help with genealogy, if needed. For information, call Phyllis Young, 760.744/7530, or Nancy Christensen, 760.788.8180.
Oceanside to Offer Spring Break Surf Camps
City of Oceanside’s Aquatic Adventure Recreation Program is offering two “spring break” sessions of Surf Camp and two sessions of Travel Surf Camp. Both camps run Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Session dates are March 29-April 2, and April 5-9. Both camps meet at the Surf Camp office located at the Beach Community Center, 300 North The Strand, next to the Pier. Call the Brooks Street Swim Center at 760.435.5225.
